Do It Anyway

This is my new motto. I’m a person of low motivation, generally, and so I often indulge my every inclination (read: sleep) instead of doing the things that will get me to where I want to be. It’s along the lines of Nike’s “Just Do It”®, but I think it’ll work better for me, because it negates any reason I might have to not do something.

Don’t wanna blog today? Do it anyway.

Not interested in ordering a salad? Do it anyway.

Don’t feel like going to the gym? Do it anyway.

Think you shouldn’t let that person merge in front of you? Do it anyway.

Not in the mood to run your errands today? Do it anyway.

Work seem overwhelming? Do it anyway.

If it works for you, feel free to co-opt it. The only rules you’ll need to follow are these: The question must be in opposition to your natural inclination, and the answer to the question must be yes. We probably all could use a little less self-indulgence. I used to tell my gymnasts, “Suck it up.” Time to take my own advice.

  1. A motto that I can live by as well.

  2. I should adopt this motto, too.

  3. Simple but effective.
